If you need to cut or crop a video for your personal use, the Free Video Cutter download will help you get the job done. While a small program, it does precisely what it claims to do, and that's the best you can ask of any program. The latest version, 1.1, offers no extras, frills or fringe benefits, but you do not need any extra bells and whistles once you download Free Video Cutter. This program performs all the basic functions for basic video editing in its basic format.

This program imports and exports several file formats, which include MPEG4, DivX, WMV, MOV, FLV and MP3, including conversions, making most of the basic formats fairly easy to transfer and transform with little need for extra work.

Once you download Free Video Cutter, open one of your video files and wait for it to load. Once it does load, you will see the markers that let you choose the portion of the video that you want to work with. Set the markers at the points of the video you want to work on. The download time for any particular video depends on the precision and detail of the original file and your import options. The greater precision and detail of the video file, the longer it will take to download everything, so prepare to stay patient while waiting. The upside to all the waiting and anticipation is that, with the high quality and precision of the original file, your cropped or otherwise altered video will retain that quality and still look good in its new form. In addition, you can simply edit with more precision.

Again, this program is extremely simple and some might even considered it a minimal program since it offers few options. For example, you can choose the output format, but you cannot control the quality since it features no quality control settings.

One thing that might prove challenging for blossoming film editors is that there is no sound in the Free Video Cutter software package, so you can only rely on the images and your familiarity with the sound and your ability to remember it, if necessary. Keep in mind that the sound is still embedded in your video file, but you just cannot hear it while you work with the app. Once you export your video and watch it on a video player, you will hear the sound as you watch the edited image. Oddly, though, you can set the output to MP3 and convert the sound from your video.

While the program does not allow for DVD files, it is ideal for online videos from YouTube and other websites. Homespun videos are ideal for budding film editors to test drive this free and simple program. MPEG 1/2, MPEG4, DivX, Xvid, AVI, WMV, Quicktime MOV, Flash video, MP3 and others are supported with Free Video Cutter.

Consider some of the pros and cons for this free program:
